Entry #6: The Holistic Planner

Image
During these busy and stressful times, many of us are looking for ways to organize ourselves the best we can. Normally, this will come in the form of a to-do list jotted down quickly on scratch paper, or a notepad app on a smartphone. Though these may be effective in remembering our daily tasks, it may not have a great effect on long term goal setting. Thinking deeper into what we truly desire might not be at the forefront of our minds, but it is essential in order to live a balanced life long term. Thankfully, this planner by Freedom Mastery  has this aspect of goal setting mapped out for you. Image Source Aside from the stunning covers, this planner takes you beyond the typical to-do list, and offers a much more holistic approach to setting goals. Unlike most planners on the market, Freedom Mastery contains writing prompts to dig deep into your mind. You'll be asked to not only brainstorm goals, but to examine your reasons why. When it comes time to set specific goals, there...

Entry #5: AllState Mayhem Advertisement

Image
https://youtu.be/dHXL8A1dowo?si=W74yIdvHLa6EqxEi https://youtu.be/dHXL8A1dowo?si=W74yIdvHLa6EqxEi Humor is one of the best ways to capture an audience and  this AllState commercial  does just that.  The ad shows a man acting like a cat. Throughout the advertisement, he does various destructive actions that a cat would do, such as knocking cups off of a table. This also shows that the author of the ad is using relatability. Anyone who has a cat knows how destructive they can be, and how much damage they sometimes cause to your house and belongings. This is even over exaggerated a bit when the ceiling is shown collapsing due to a flooded bathroom. Around this time is when the idea of homeowners insurance is brought up.  Image Source The viewer sees all of these horrible things happening to the house and probably thinks how they would never want that happening to them. They might be wondering what they would do in that situation. The introduction to the idea of h...

Entry #4: A Salty Decoration

Image
I’m  sure everyone has heard of Himalayan salt. It's those small, sparkly pink granules almost resembling crystals that you can grind up and sprinkle on your favorite dishes. Oftentimes, it also comes pre-ground and looks like pink sand. However, culinary usage is not the only purpose this salt has. Surprisingly enough, it has become one of the most sought after home decorations! Image Source When it comes to home decor, Himalayan salt comes in many different forms. Normally, it appears in large chunks and is attached to a light bulb that can be plugged in. The most common form is just a very large piece of Himalayan salt. The unevenness of it creates a more natural and eclectic look, and it goes perfectly with a  boho style interior . Other times, it takes on a more sophisticated look in thr shape of a perfectly round sphere. Another possibility on the market. Is that of a small bowl full of Himalayan salt rocks, in either their natural shape or a sphere shape. These ones lig...

Entry #3: Small Edible Disks

Image
It was early afternoon and I had just finished my lunch. I needed something to cleanse my palette, and liven me for the rest of the day. I pulled out the small plastic box in my pocket that I had been saving for later. I tug at the plastic and then flip the lid open. After rotating it so that the opening was facing my palm, I tilt the container and begin shaking it. I made a few rigorous shakes and one of these small disks landed in my palm. I brought it to my mouth and closed my lips around it. This experience is something to savor, so I don't chew. Instead, I let the flavor wash over me, feeling refreshed. I continue with my work, sorting out papers and documents, all while feeling this piece of a wintergreen forest dissolve in my mouth. I am so grateful that I have an entire box more of them for when I finish this one. I bite down on the hard disk, exploding waves of an ice cold river sprinkled with sugar across my senses. I suck out the invigorating flavor from the small pieces...

Entry #2: Sedona

Image
When you think of the best tourist destinations as an American, what usually comes to mind? Many people may picture somewhere exotic such as Paris, Turks and Caicos, or even Greece. However, you don't need to grab your passport and hop on a plane to experience new and amazing sights. Many of the world's greatest places are just a day trip away.  One such place is Sedona, located around 2 hours north of Phoenix. Filled with both forests and the majestic red rocks, Sedona offers some amazing natural sights and activities.   Image Source During my first stay in Sedona, I stayed in an Airbnb camper by the mountains. I recommend staying in a camper, or even full fledged camping on a campsite if you are an experienced outdoor person. Taking a more nature oriented approach for your chosen accommodation will allow you to experience the full beauty of the small place in Arizona. In fact, sitting in my camper while watching the sun set over the mountains was the most memorable mome...

Entry #1: Gardening

Image
One hobby that I’ve found myself delving into lately has been gardening. My interest in gardening was first piqued when learning about tiny homes, homesteading and an off grid lifestyle. Despite a completely off grid lifestyle not being feasible any time soon, I knew that I could at least begin growing my own plants.  Most people living in a city, such as myself, don't have acres upon acres of land. Therefore, a full harvest and a wide array of crops would be out of the question. Instead, I had to make do with indoor space. I started off with a typical tomato plant from Lowe's. After keeping it alive for a week, I then branched out to a basil and pepper plant. All of these were indoor of course, otherwise the heat would have scorched them.  I continued to experiment with growing cilantro, strawberries, rosemary, and berry bushes. It was much easier than I thought! As long as you know the needs of each plant (such as soil acidity level, sunlight requirements, and nutrient requi...
